Members of the ten week Advanced Des Plaines Senior Citizen Police Academy gathered at the Des Plaines Frisbie Senior Center on Wednesday, October 21, 2009, to hear a presentation by recently retired Police Detective Ralph Tovar. The Advanced Des Plaines Senior Citizen Police Academy is coordinated by Des Plaines Community Action Team (CAT) Police Officers Colin Johnson and John Gitzinger. The Academy involves “hands on” activities such as traffic stop simulations, domestic dispute scenarios and self-defense training. Johnson and Gitzinger invited Tovar to speak on his experiences working on the John Wayne Gacy serial murder investigation which involved the Des Plaines Police Department in 1978. ![]() (pictured) Members of the Advanced Des Plaines Senior Citizen Police Academy gather around recently retired Des Plaines Police Detective Ralph Tovar (center/black shirt)at the Gacy Case presentation held this week at the Des Plaines Frisbie Senior Center, 52 Northwest Highway.
